EXODUS' TOM HUNTING: 'We're Happy With All The Music That We Made With ROB DUKES'
November 23, 2014Jay Nanda of San Antonio Metal Music Examiner conducted an interview with drummer Tom Hunting of San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS on November 18 in Austin, Texas during the band's tour with SLAYER and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On sharing the stage with former EXODUS drummer Paul Bostaph, who last year rejoined SLAYER:
"I love Paul Bostaph; he's awesome. He's an amazing drummer. The stuff he did on [the 2005 EXODUS album] 'Shovel Headed Kill Machine' was absolutely fantastic. And when we're doing a headlining set, I have to go out and emulate some of the shit he did from that [album]. It's not easy. He's machine. [Laughs]"
On why they chose to thank former EXODUS members Rob Dukes (vocals) and Rick Hunolt (guitar) in the credits for the new EXODUS album, "Blood In Blood Out":
"We're happy with all the music that we made with Dukes. I think it's kind of screwed up that we were at an impasse when it came to making this album with him. But it was album No. 10 and it needed to be special. But we love those guys. We love all the music that we created with Dukes singing, and obviously, Rick's a big part of the history of this band as well."
"Blood In Blood Out" sold around 8,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on October 14 via Nuclear Blast, the CD art was illustrated by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, known worldwide for his incredible renderings that have graced the covers of countless heavy metal albums, including EXODUS' "Let There Be Blood".
"Blood In Blood Out" is EXODUS' first album since the departure of Dukes, and the return of his predecessor, Steve "Zetro" Souza, who previously fronted EXODUS from 1986 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2004.
